I try to tell my husband to stop doing it, but when he has to find songs he tends to wander onto the illegal music sharing sites.

I have huge issues with this for three reasons.

The first is that it’s illegal and I know that not everyone using these sites will have any problems, but I just have that kind of luck.

Secondly, when you download their file sharing software onto your computer you get more than you wanted.

You not only have that software messing with your computer, you have to deal with the viruses and spyware that come with a lot of the free songs.

Lastly, it’s just not right.

He still tries to find songs this way, and I keep deleting the software.

I understand his frustration.

He’s a musician and he often has to learn songs on a few days notice.

It’s not economical to go out and buy each song, but he could pay for a subscription to someone like Napster.

At least that way he can hear what he needs to hear and find songs that he needs to learn, and I don’t have to worry about viruses as much.

He’s stubborn though, and he thinks that nothing will happen.

Perhaps I am paranoid, but I don’t find songs this way, and I never have really liked the idea of it.

It is much like copying CDs for your friends.

You may think there is no harm done; after all, these artists are rich, right?

I guess that’s a conversation you have to have with yourself when you find songs this way, and it is up to you do to what you feel is right.

Perhaps if it were happening to you, you would feel differently.

As a writer, I find myself hoping that no one would profit from my writing but me and those that I have given permission to.

When it comes to your own personal creations, you should be able to use them as you wish, and you should not have to worry about giving away your life’s work for free.

It’s not fair to anyone, and when you find songs for free online, you are depriving that artist of their royalties.

It doesn’t matter how much money they do or do not have, it’s still theirs and if you want it, you should certainly pay for it.

Those who find songs this way will always be around, but in they keep doing it, they most certainly will regret it one day for one reason or another.
