Just because a company has a famous or recognized name does not mean that you will automatically succeed by opening a franchise of that company.
Believe me, I know from experience.
When a rich uncle of mine died, I came into some money quite unexpected.
It was a good bit of money, but of course not enough to retire on.
I decided that I would put that money to good use.
I would find franchises to buy and capitalize on the investment opportunity.
Little did I know how much work was ahead of me.
I was not experienced in business, and buying a franchise was one of the biggest mistakes I ever made.
The first franchise to buy that I found was with Burger King.
I knew that they were a highly successful company, and I figured that, since my town didn't have one, it would be easy to turn a profit.
I was sorely mistaken.
You see, finding franchises to buy is only half of the story.
It is actually the easy part.
Your success depends not so much on choosing a franchise to by, as in finding the right location.
Franchises to buy promise you brand name recognition, but they do not promise that you will be in an area where it is easy to succeed.
In my case, I opened a franchise in a part of town that had had a series of unsuccessful restaurants.
I got the space cheaply, but it is little wonder why.
All of the franchises to buy that had opened their had failed quickly.
The key to success with franchises to buy is to be in a convenient location.
No matter how much people like Taco Bell, Shell Oil, Starbucks, or any of the other well-known franchises, they don't go there because of the product.
They go there because of the convenience.
If you buy one in an inconvenient part of town where people don't pass by regularly, you are out of luck.
There's just no way that you will succeed without the right location.
We have all heard people say that location is everything, but there is nowhere where this saying is more true than in the case of franchises to buy.
It doesn't matter if you are talking about gas station franchises, fast food franchises, or some other type of company.
Your best asset is to be on people's way to work.
If people drive by you, they won't even know that you're there.
