Identity theft statistics

Most people had never sat in front of a keyboard unless you were going to be a secretary or wanted to type your college term papers.

I am in my mid forties.

When I stop to think about advancements in technology in my life time I am absolutely amazed.

There were no computers used when I was in High School or college.

I remember how excited we were about electric type writers instead of the manual ones.

Most people had never sat in front of a keyboard unless you were going to be a secretary or wanted to type your college term papers.

The classmates that had the edge in doing research were those that had the world book encyclopedia at home.

Today things are very different.

Children are learning to keyboard in kindergarten and most children have never seen a typewriter.

Research is done through the internet.

Of course with all the technical advancements comes a different opportunity to scam people.

There are new crimes that did not exist in the past.

I could not believe the identity theft statistics that were recently released.

At this point one out of every four people will have to deal with this issue.

This area is so new that the government does not have a way to even begin to address these staggering identity theft statistics until new laws and regulations are established to police the internet.

My family can be included in the identity theft statistics.

My nephew and his wife were in the process of buying a different vehicle.

They were going to take out a loan from the bank to help pay for it.

My nephew has a good paying job and so does his wife, so they were not concerned about being approved for the loan.

When they went in to sign the papers at the bank my nephew was informed that he had an outstanding credit card debt of five thousand dollars, so the loan payments were going to be higher because they no longer qualified for the lower interest rates.

The lower interest rates were for people with good credit scores.

My nephew had never had a credit card with the company in question.

He called them and was told that an application was made with his personal information and a credit card was issued.

Two thousand dollars in merchandize was bought and three thousand dollar cash advancement was given.

This had happened six months before my nephew found out.

The application for the credit card was taken on-line.

My nephew is not sure where the person found his person data.

He works a great deal with computers for his career, so he has thought that he has been careful, yet he became one of the identity theft statistics.

The bank and credit card company are working with him to get this straightened out.

Their plans to buy a new car are now on hold until the credit rating is cleared up.
