So much rests in a decent job or career. Think about this for a moment.
What is a job? It's basically a daily chore that one has to do, five days a week, 8 hours a day.
Then at the end of each week or every two weeks, one gets paid a regular sum of money. This is called an income.
We use our incomes to survive in this modern-day world. Doesn't that pretty much sum up the process?
Now, what about a job title description? These are often not so clear.
Just because your job description says "Video Store Sales Clerk," doesn't mean that this particular task is the only thing you'll be doing.
Chances are you will be doing a number of other chores other than renting out DVDs and videos.
I should know; I did this for six years. One of the best ways to better understand jobs and what they entail is by getting online.
Back when I was just 19 years old, I worked as a Chinese Food Delivery Guy.
Sound fun and amazing? Yeah, I didn't think so.
Granted, it wasn't the greatest gig in the world, but I cleared $350 a week, and that wasn't bad considering I was living at home still.
Anyway, one day my manager asked me to clean the restaurant bathroom.
I reacted with a chuckle. After all, he must be joking, right.
That's not my job title description. I am the delivery guy.
This equals delivering food to customers at their homes and businesses. Make sense?
It totally did to me. Regardless, I was still told to clean the bathroom.
My manager informed me that a mere job title description does not fully entail every aspect of the job.
I winced with a HUH. This is when I said I'd rather quit. For me at age 19, the job wasn't that crucial or necessary.
I wasn't cleaning any bathrooms. This was a problem for my manager.
Although most supervisors at most businesses would have probably said "BYE," he couldn't do that.
The restaurant was way too busy and he only had three delivery drivers total.
There was no way he could do without me, the guy who worked the most hours.
Especially since it was a Friday afternoon. He would be shooting himself in the foot.
Oh well, lucky me. I wouldn't be cleaning any restrooms that day.
No lesson learned there. Okay, so once you reach adulthood, you should have a pretty good idea that a job title description is fairly basic.
You can't go solely by the title. This is absurd. I know that know.
