Oil companies
The oil companies have taken a beating in recent years, but it seems they are making record profits.
The oil companies have taken a beating in recent years, but it seems they are making record profits.
It’s hard for the average consumer to wrap their mind around this when they are paying three dollars and up for a gallon of gas.
Surely there must be something going on, something that makes the prices so high.
I can understand why the prices went up after Katrina hit.
That was due to shortages and supply and demand.
However this summer the prices soared and there was no reason for it, especially when the oil companies reported profits in the billions.
Every time you fill up your gas tank this may go through your mind.
Why do we pay so much?
We need gas, sadly, and the oil companies know this.
What they don’t know is that when they report record profits but then say there is nothing they can do about the high price of gas, they may be shooting themselves in the foot.
People are going to find a new way if things stay as they are.
It may take a while, and the oil companies may scoff at the new hybrid type of car, but give it time.
If enough people get fed up, they are going to see their record profits turn into loses.
As it stands right now, the oil companies can do whatever they want.
I wonder what will happen once Bush leaves office.
He seems to be friend to the oil companies, and I don’t see him doing much about gas prices.
They may not affect him very much, but those of us who have to budget our money are getting hit hard.
I thought it was especially suspect when the gas prices shot up in the summer months.
This is when everyone travels, and they know it.
The oil companies know that we don’t want to give up our cars, and only the wealthier part of the population can afford to get a hybrid car.
For me, right now, it’s not something I can do.
The oil companies know they have some breathing room, but they should also know that people are getting fed up, and that eventually leads to drastic changes in the world.
I don’t know all of the politics involved, and I certainly don’t know how the oil companies set prices, but they will one day have to face the consumers they are ripping off right now, and they may have to face them sooner than they thought.
