Online tutoring
Online tutoring meant that whenever they had a question, they had someone they could ask.
I have been working as a tutor for many years.
I'm used to working one on one, face-to-face, in a closed and private environment.
This gives me the opportunity to make the students feel comfortable.
We can work closely on any problems they may be having, whether they be homework problems, or more serious and broad-based learning problems.
So when I had a job offer as an online tutor, I was a little bit skeptical.
I could not see how online tutoring would help.
Nonetheless, I needed the extra money and it seemed like easy work.
I applied for the job as an online math tutor, thinking that it would last for maybe six months.
Online tutoring do not seem like a promising area.
Sooner or later, the kids would realize that they were not getting the help they needed.
Little did I know how much the online tutoring actually worked.
Of course, it is always better to meet face-to-face, but sometimes kids don't have that option.
The company that I work for paid their online tutors a set fee to be on call during certain hours.
That way, any student who had questions could log in and talk to them.
You would receive a bonus for every hour of online tutoring that you did, but you would be paid regardless.
The great thing about this system of online tutoring is that our kids could get the help that they need at any time that they needed it.
Some of these kids were to slackers.
They would procrastinate until the last minute and count on their online tutors to help them out.
We did this to the best of our abilities, but sometimes it wasn't enough.
But for other kids, online tutoring served a more serious purpose.
Some of them did not have the help that they needed from their parents.
A lot of them were good kids who just had some problems with comprehension.
Online tutoring meant that whenever they had a question, they had someone they could ask.
In addition, online tutoring was cheaper than the in person kind, allowing poorer kids to be able to use it.
Overall, I really did manage to help a lot of kids.
I was surprised by how much I liked online tutoring, and within a few years I was starting a tutoring company of my own.
Nowadays, I get to work face-to-face again, but I still do tutor online sometimes.
